The lot features an outstanding Navajo Native American Indian wool rug with an excellent Two Grey Hills Toadlena pattern from the Crownpoint Trading Post and was woven by Jessie Howe. The rug dates to the mid-20th Century and is from the Crownpoint Rug Weavers Association and was handmade in Arizona. The rug has the original early trading post tag which reads, “No. 3034 3 Crownpoint Rug Weavers Assn. Crownpoint, New Mexico Weaver: Jessie Howe Address: Two Grey Hills.” Crownpoint, New Mexico has been home to a gathering of extraordinary Navajo weavers since the early 1900’s including weavers from the Lorenzo Hubbell Trading Post, Teec Nos Pos Trading Post, Toadlena and Two Grey Hills Trading Post and J.B. Moore Old Crystal Trading Post. In circa 1950-1960’s the Crownpoint Rug Weavers Association founded the Crownpoint Rug Auction which is still in operation today. The rug shows a nice tight weave of 100% wool showing natural colors of black, cream/white, browns and grey. The rug has nice detail and shows very well-preserved museum quality condition. Provenance: From a 90-year collection out of Central Arizona in the Coconino National Forest. Measures overall 27.5 inches long by 21 inches wide.
