For your consideration is this early Navajo Pre-Banded Chinle rug. The Chinle style rug is named for the town of Chinle, AZ, at the mouth of the Canyon de Chelly. The style was developed by Cozy McSparron and Mary Cabot Wheelwright, traders at the Chinle Trading Post. Mary Cabot Wheelwright also founded the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe. The Chinle rugs are known for their warm vegetal dye colors of gold, green, tan, ivory and pink. This rug features geometric designs in the classic vegetal dye colors with dark brown and black. The designs are bordered with a brown/black geometric design with a solid brown/ black outside border. The has a nice tight weave and is in very good condition. It measures 41" x 66.5"
