For your consideration is this early 20th Century Navajo Klagetoh rug. Klagetoh is located just south of Ganado. The Klagetoh style was established by Lorenzo Hubbell late in 1800, along with the contrasting Ganado Style. The Klagetoh style generally consists of gray or tan backgrounds highlighted by deep red and have black borders. Design elements usually consist of one or more stepped center diamonds and/ or triangles surrounded by a geometric border. This blanket has a black outer border surrounding a second border of black stepped triangles. The inner field is grey/ beige with deep red stepped diamonds and triangles. The red diamonds and triangles frame smaller black versions, which frame smaller yet stepped white crosses. A cord of orange goes around the entire perimeter of the blanket, tied off in tassels at the corners. The weaving on this blanket is very tight and is in excellent condition. There is however considerable bleed in the dyes, particularly the red. This blanket measures 32" x 54.5".
