Navajo Klagetoh Trading Post Rug c. 1890-1910's
Featured in this lot is this Navajo Klagetoh Trading Post rug circa 1890-1910's The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wool construction that features a traditional Klagetoh Trading Post design that shows a heathered grey field with a centeral medallion with coloration of off white, medium red, and black and the central medallion is large which takes up the majority of the rug. Klagetoh is located just south of Ganado and 10 miles north of Wide Ruins. The English translation is “hidden springs”. The Klagetoh weaving is very similar to the Ganado rugs, but with a predominantly gray background instead of the Ganado’s red. The condition of this Navajo Klagetoh rug is good the tassels missing off of all four corners of the rug but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this rug is 84" x 51 1/2". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert.
