This is an excellent original Navajo Native American Indian hand-woven wool trading post rug dating to circa 1950’s with a fantastic Ganado pattern from the Crownpoint Trading Post from weaver Grace Redmustache. The Ganado pattern of weaving was established by Lorenzo Hubbell in the late 1800’s at the Hubbell Trading Post and was located southwest of Crystal in the center of the Navajo Reservation. The rug dates to the mid-20th Century and is from the Crownpoint Rug Weavers Association from Crownpoint, New Mexico. The rug has the original early trading post tag which reads, “No. 2972 3 Crownpoint Rug Weavers Assn. Crownpoint, New Mexico Weaver: Grace Redmustache Address: Pinon (Arizona).” Crownpoint, New Mexico has been home to a gathering of extraordinary Navajo weavers since the early 1900’s including weavers from the Lorenzo Hubbell Trading Post, Teec Nos Pos Trading Post, Toadlena and Two Grey Hills Trading Post and J.B. Moore Old Crystal Trading Post. In circa 1950-1960’s the Crownpoint Rug Weavers Association founded the Crownpoint Rug Auction which is still in operation today. The rug shows an incredibly tight hand-woven construction with a very fine soft churro wool with all-natural vegetable dyed colors of black, grey, white/cream and red in a fantastic traditional geometric Ganado pattern. The piece is very well preserved showing good condition with little to no wear. Provenance: From a 90-year collection out of Central Arizona in the Coconino National Forest. Measures overall 50 inches long by 38 inches wide (the measurements include the four tassels which are ach 5 inches in length).
