The lot features a Native American Indian hand carved wood mirror board in the likeness of the famous Iowa circa 1880 piece. The board shows a horse head carving with weaping heart cutout and inlaid pewter lead accents. The body of the board shows a diamond shaped opening for the mirror with red outline and iron brass tacks accenting. The Europeans would frequently trade small glass mirrors with the Native Americans, with the Indian ornamenting the frames as such. The reverse of the piece is marked in the inlay, “IOWA 1880” as the makers mark. The age of this piece is unknown, and is most likely a 20th century recreation. Measures 5 7/8”W x 11.75”H x 1”D.
