PERCUSSION GUN BY O. WARE. 52 Cal. smooth bore. NSN. The 38" octagon to rnd. half stock percussion gun signed "O. Ware". Unmarked percussion lock. Bbl. is fastened to the lock w/ 2 wedges & has a wooden underrib. The trigger guard ends in a pineapple shaped finial. Orlando Ware worked in Worcester Massachusetts, 1842-1849. CONDITION: good. Bbl. and lock exhibit cleaned highlights in brown patina. Breech area of bbl. shows cleaned deep pitting; bolster & modern nipple show oxidation. Stock with old shiny refinish shows nonmatching repairs at rear of barrel area on both sides & 4" crack extending from tip area of trigger guard tang. Brass is nicely toned. Rusted bore.
