Museum quality mid-17th century inlaid chest attributed to Munich Royal Workshop, possibly Heroniomus Bergsdorffer. [[[[ CONFIRM SPELLING ]]]]]. The chest measures approx. 7” in height by 17-1/4”wide, and is ornatelyand finely inlaid similar to the royal quality firearms made during the height of the Wheelock period. The inlay is extremely profuse and tight and is as fine as we have ever seen. There are large panels, several of which show men with arms. The large panels are slightly rubbed down from being kept clean by a succession of housemaids we would assume. The overall condition is very good plus to near fine for a genuine antique ofthis age. The fine line carving on the central panels should be professionally restored as this is an important antiquity. The interior of the box also shows two inlaid panels and there is a secret compartment and retains its original antique mirror in the lid. The box shows some cracking, normal aging, but is very good plus overall and the inlay is very nearly 100% intact. Est: $15,000 - $30,000
