Mrs. McThing Broadway Stage Actor's Signed Al Hirschfeld Original Proof
The smash-hit comedy fantasy play "Mrs. McThing" opened on Broadway in New York on February 20th, 1952, and ran for over 350 performances. It was written by Mary Chase best known for another hit comedy-fantasy, "Harvey". It was about jealous witches, and little boys and little girls who fight against being "perfect". it had a stellar cast of such luminaries as Helen Hayes, Brandon de Wilde, Jules Mushin, Ernest Borgnine, Irwin Corey, Fred Gwynne and Iggie Wolfington. And as with virtually every major Broadway play in over a fifty year span, the legendary artist Al Hirschfeld did the "Playbill" program cover showing his iconic character studies of the stars. This is a rare oversize original proof directly from Hirschfeld's original drawing of the main cast members of the play. Its value is increased by the fact that each of the actors portrayed by Mr. Hirschfeld in his amazing artwork had personally autographed this proof during the run of the show. They include Helen Hayes, Fred Gwynne, Brandon de Wilde, Lydia Reed, Irwin Cory, and Jules Munshin. Also includes two rare photos of the actual stage production. Proof is approx. 22"x16".
