Nine day guided hunt for mountain goat in the Telegraph Creek/Stikine River area. To be taken mid August to mid September, 2016 or 2017.
We have now completed six seasons at Golden Bear. After over 30 years in the outfitting business we have learned that no matter how many years you are at it every year dishes up its own brew of excitement and hunting adventure. We have had seasons as dry as a tinder box when we had to deal with huge forest fires and smoke, sometimes the weather is wet and foggy, other times cold and snowy. Guides and hunters are always ready to with whatever mother nature throws at them and they are always ready and up for the challenge. Golden Bear once again produced some great trophies, some of them destined for the record book.
Goat is our most plentiful animal, offering a great opportunity to harvest a trophy animal. Our goats get every bit as big as coastal goats, but the hunting for them is generally more pleasant (less Devils Club and no coastal rain/fog). Our goats range in size from 9-11". Golden Bear produces trophy class animals. In 2008 Tim Metcalf took the new world’s record Pope and Young goat scoring 54 2/8 inches. Read his story here. Bob Schermer took a 53 6/8 Boone and Crockett goat on the same hunt! We also took several other goats right at the 50" mark in 2008. Hunt mid-late August for the best weather and after mid-September for the best hair. Goat hunting is strenuous and requires good physical conditioning. If you want a big goat, be prepared to turn down smaller billies. We do not encourage or promote shooting nannies, even though they are legal. We have several areas that can be accessed with horses for those who cannot hike far.
