Montana Territory and Montana State Law Books (5)
This lot includes a collection of five (5) Montana Territory and Montana State Law books, 1888 - 1915. Early Montana Territory law borrowed heavily from other states, especially California and New York, as models for developing laws, but that effort soon presented major challenges as Montana had a much smaller population and immense differences in lifestyles, land mass and natural resources. Of particular historical interest are the Montana Territory Supreme Court cases heard and decided as reported in Volume 7 of "Reports of Cases Argued and Determined in the Supreme Court of Montana Territory at the July Term 1887, the January Term 1888, and the July Term 1888. By Horace R. Buck, Reporter. The Bancroft Company 1888." Books included in this collection are, "Montana Reports Volume 7, Buck 1888"; "Laws of Montana Eleventh Session 1909"; "Laws of Montana Fourteenth Session 1915"; "Report and Official Opinions of the Attorney General of the State of Montana 1910-1912, Albert J. Galen, Attorney General"; and lastly, "The Pacific Reporter Volume 85, containing all the decisions of the Supreme Courts of California, Kansas, Washington, Colorado, Montana, Arizona, Nevada Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Courts of Appeal California.1906" All books are leather bound hardcover, covers exhibit moisture and scuffing damages, intact pages have age tanning and some foxing noted.
