Mohawk Electric Co. model 100 VA
This unusual looking set was the first model introduced by this company and was a major technological breakthrough. All three tuning condensers were placed one behind the other on a single shaft. Mohawk patented this system, which would eventually be used on all modern AM radios. This arrangement of the tuning condensers is what allows the cabinet of this radio to be so differently shaped than other radios of this period. The single tuning dial itself is unique in that the outer ring of the knob is for course tuning while the inner ring uses internal reduction gearing for fine tuning. Wurlitzer, who manufactured the cabinet of this set, eventually took over the company. In 1937, after losing money for years, Wurlitzer quit the radio business to concentrate on its more profitable jukeboxes. no tubes
