One of only 841 known to have been made, the Krag Gallery Practice rifle was typically issued as a barreled action, to be stocked by unit armorers. Many of these were destroyed by the Army after WWI, making them even more scarce. Blade front and ladder rear sights on the unmarked barrel, with an offset bore and a spring loaded, guide mounted extractor at the breech. The frame is marked "CAL./.22" next to the standard markings, with the right side milled down for easier loading and a trip pin added to the left, to disengage the bolt extractor from the chamber extractor. Replacement straight wrist carbine stock, with a grooved forearm and flat buttplate.
BBL: 22 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 22 LR
Finish: blue/ casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: 477058
Condition: Good as shortened to carbine length, with 40% of the original dark casehardened finish, showing a gray patina on the shortened barrel and a mixed brown patina on the magazine. The front sight has been reset in place. The case colors have turned dark. The replacement carbine stock is fair, with extensive dents, along with a patch on the left side of the buttstock. Mechanically very good.
