Model of Conestoga Wagon Mid to Late 1900s
Featured in this lot is this model of a covered Conestoga wagon circa mid to late 1900s. The Conestoga wagon is a specific design of heavy covered wagons that were used extensively during the late 18th century and early 19th century in the eastern United States and Canada. It was large enough to transport loads up to 5.4 tons and was drawn by horses, mules or oxen. The Conestoga wagon was built with its floor curved upward to prevent the contents from tipping and shifting. Including its tongue, the average Conestoga wagon was 18 feet long, 11 feet high and 4 feet in width. The wagon model features the iconic curved canvas top and is constructed completely of wood and thin metal rods. It features a small model rifle and black powder horn along with a wood barrel, a wood crate and wood tools on the sides of the wagon. The front of the wagon has the tongue and the hook-ups for being pulled by horses, mules or oxen. The tongue moves freely from side to side. This model wagon is in fair condition and shows wear from its age and use over the years, but gives the wagon its authentic, vintage look. The wagon measures 20 3/8" L x 7" W x 12 1/2" H and weighs 2 pounds and 2 ounces.
