Model 1843 Hall carbine by Simeon North, .52 caliber percussion, serial #14405. Stock is marked “Ark 7 Cav”, with small type cartouche directly behind the rear of the frame and top of the stock. The metal surfaces show agrey to brown patina finish with scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting. The wood is good with dings, mars, scratches, normal use. The markings are sharp, the original cleaning rod is retained. The action and interior are good. The bottom of the stock in front and to the rear of the triggerguard are soldier carved “JV” and service records of Arkansas 7th Cavalry identify Joel Valens with those initials andhe enlisted August 1863 at Kingston, Arkansas, AWOL within federal lines, 25th October 1863. The 7th Arkansas Cavalry were a confederate regiment and fought at Pine Bluff in Price’s raid and were commanded byCol. John F. Hill, with other interesting documentation. Est: $1,600 - $3,200
