Miner’s axe with Flintlock pistol and ornately engraved and pierced brass head on long inlaid shaft. Refer “Blades & Barrels” by Gordon Frost pg.190-191. The arm measures 49-3/4”, the barrel of the pistol approx6-1/2” and approx 36 cal smooth bore. The head is finely engraved and dated 1762 with portraits of miners and many slogans along with pierced area showing picks. These fancy axes were carried by miners in central toEastern Europe for parade and were the beginning of unions. The steel surfaces show some light to moderate pitting and generally good. The brass head is very good with sharp engraving. The shaft is inlaid withbone and pearl for approx 31”. The last foot and a half left plain. The lock retains its original small parts. Stock is good to very good showing a couple of brakes and repairs that are minor and some minor restoration ofa couple of inlays. Among the best of this type weapon extant.
