Milwaukee, Wisconsin Shipped Winchester Model 1873 Third Model Lever Action Rifle with Factory Lett
This is a fine Model 1873 Winchester lever action rifle that was manufactured in 1909. This Third Model Rifle has an integral dust cover rail, dust cover with seriated edges and the stepped receiver edge found on 22, 32 and 38 caliber arms. The rifle has a round barrel and full length magazine. The barrel has a fixed, nickel-steel front sight and sporting rear sight. The rifle is blued with casehardened hammer, loading lever and crescent buttplate. The walnut stock and forearm have a varnished finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT./KING'S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber, "32 W.C.F." is stamped on the top of the barrel ahead of the receiver. Winchester oval "W/P" proof marks are stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. "32 CAL" is engraved on the bottom of the cartridge elevator. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped: "MODEL 1873/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK" in three lines. The serial number is located on the lower receiver tang behind the loading lever latch. The accompanying Cody Museum letter verifies the rifle configuration, 32 caliber, round barrel, that it was received in the warehouse on January 14, 1910 and shipped to John H. Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin on June 30, 1911.
