Simple military style configuration with reinforced brass ferrule, brass triangular guard, wood broom handle type grip secured by brass rivets and shows pewmeasuring approx 12 1/2" in length with 7 1/2" blade. Simple military style configuration with reinforced brass ferrule, brass triangular guard, wood broom handle type grip secured by brass rivets and shows pewter inlays of diamond andovoid shape. The blade is lightly hand engraved and etched. The etching barely legible and appears to read "Defender of a Pat" (most likely defender of the patriotic). The blade shows some pitting, edging, and wear, and is fair to good. The mountshow a deep patina. The wood grip is good. The pommel of the knife shows a pewter-inlayed are with a hole drilled in the center which may have been for a carrying ring, now lost. A very interesting knife of the Civil War Era which hasdistinct similarities to Hicks and Rifleman's Knives.
