This lot contains a savage looking Mexican made machete. The machete includes a scalloped, and tooled leather scabbard, with fine inlaid hide. The machete is engraved down the blade with excellent hand carved font and graphic. The blade reads on one side "Guerrero de la costa" which translates to "Warrior of the coast". The reverse side of the blade reads "Soy la flor", translating to "I am the flower", the same side of the blade is additionally etched with what is believed to read "Ayutla", attributing its manufacture to Ayutla, Jalisco Mexico. As well, the blade shows a makers stamp, although it cannot be deciphered. The two piece carved horn handle shows defect in cracking and a split in the eagle beak, though it still fits tight to the tang, and shows excellent color. The blade which originates from around the first quarter of the 1900's is in good condition for age. The blade displays heavy patina, but has a modern sharpen to the edge. The machete inserted into its custom scabbard measures 29 7/8" long, 3 3/4" at its widest, and an 1 1/4" thick at the handle.
