The lot features a very fine Metis Cree American Indian 1830’s style quilled dag knife sheath with q9th Century Haniover Inc Trade Knife. The sheath shows a parfleche rawhide lining with a walnut tanned hide showing all porcupine quillwork in a geometric pattern having natural colors of brown, tan, white / cream or orange. The sheath shows a braided top belt tie and the outside edge has a tightly sewn quilled fancy edge which is accented by eight sections of drop fringe showing rolled tin jingle cones with orange dyed horsehair and wound glass 19th Century pony trade beads. The sheath is made in the exact style shape and manner of other circa 1830’s Metis Cree dag knife with a later age. Provenance: From the private family collection of Sarah Alling of Helena, Montana. The family collection of Sarah Alling, a 5th Generation Montanan, began in the 19th Century and has grown since. Along with being an avid collector herself, Sarah co-founded with Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Fine Art of Bozeman, Montana which was both part museum and gallery.
