Merkel model 301E 28ga over/under shotgun 28-1/2” barrels, ventilated rib, single trigger, auto ejector, scallop frame, nicely game scene engraved in typical German game-scene motifs, split forend, pistol gripstock, monte carlo cheekpiece, cocking indicators, composite butt cap and pistol grip cap. The gun is choked “Improved Modified” over “Modified”. The barrels show “W” “U” and “N” with Nitro proofs and Suhlproofs. The barrels retain 95-98% original blue that is evenly toning. The frame shows grey case hardening typical of Merkel with some light cleaning. The triggerguard shows 98% original blue. The stocks are somewhat of a straight or plain grain, only slightly figured, and are in a very good to fine condition. The stock measures 14-7/8” inches to the end of the wood, 15” to the end of the buttplate. The bores are excellent, the gunshows some use but has been cared for. The gun is contained within an old luggage type case, which is marked Abercrombie & Fitch on the edge, probably the original American retailer. The case is good with some slight
