Meachum style conversion of Sharps to sporting rifle, showing heavy octagon barrel marked W. Cooper Bozeman, Mt, serial #C36905 on action, .45 cal. bore with straight case. The barrel measures 30" and approximately1-nearly 3/8" across the center; the rifle weighs nearly 16 lbs. The barrel shows no serial numbers or markings and is probably made by W. Cooper. The metal surfaces show a patina finish with light to moderatescattered erosion and pitting, some blue mixed in on the barrel, the barrel shows an old coating of varnish. The stocks are worn and show a repair at the wrist, dings, mars, scratches, weathering and some small lossesin the forend, fair to good overall. The butt plate is heavily rusted, and there is some weathering and shrinking around the butt plate. The rifle is mounted with double triggers, shows a Lawrence marked rear sightand a large western style blade and post front sight. The action is good, the bore is fair to good with some erosion at the breech from heavy shooting. An attractive Sharps rifle that could honestly be called a
