The right side of the receiver is marked: "MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS." The opposite side is marked: "EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / MAY 27, 1851 / DEC. 6, 1859" followed by "1873". The lower tang is marked with the serial number and "1865". The rifle is equipped with the Hadley Device and has a heavy, part octagon barrel with a forearm and a dovetailed folding beach combination front sight and fixed open rear sight. The upper tang is fitted with a replacement short range peep sight. The barrel is blue with a casehardened receiver and mounted with a smooth straight grip walnut stock with a brass carbine buttplate.

Stock: walnut
Gauge: 38
Finish: blue/casehardened

Serial Number: 22544
Condition: Very good. The barrel retains 50% original thinning blue finish with areas of smooth plum patina. The receiver retains much faded original case colors with a smooth mottled brownish patina on the balance. The lever and buttplate have a smooth brown patina. The wood is good. The stock has been revarnished and the forearm grain doesn't match the stock. Most of the varnish remains on the stock with some minor flaking and cracking, and overall there are some scattered minor dings and scratches. The left side receiver markings are barely visible, the right side is readable and the action is fine.
