The right side of the receiver is marked: "MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS." The opposite side is marked: "EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / MAY 27, 1851 / DEC. 6, 1859" the lower tang is marked with the serial number and "1865". The rifle has a part octagon barrel without forearm, folding beach combination front sight and the rear sight has been removed. There is a tang mounted mid-range peep sight. Blue barrel, buttplate and lever and nickel plated receiver and hammer. Mounted with a smooth straight grip stock with a carbine style buttplate. Complete with a 26 inch part octagon 35 caliber barrel with lever and fixed iron rear sight, and equipped with a 30 3/8" William Malcolm tube scope, mounted in the front sight dovetail and a dovetail slot behind the rear sight. The barrel is numbered "27410".

Condition: Period refinished (partically) with 20% thin streaks of blue finish on the barrel, with a smooth brown patina on the balance. There is a small amount of pitting under the finish on the rear flats. The lever has a smooth brown patina. The receiver retains 95% nickel finish with some flaking on the lower tang, hammer and side plate, which retain most of the nickel finish. The stock has been refinished and remains very good with a few minor dings and scratches. The extra barrel and scope have a smooth mottled brown patina. The scope optics are clear.
