Heavy barrel with globe front sight, rear sight removed, filler block installed, the tang sight has been removed and screws placed in the holes. The left side of the receiver is marked "EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY 27, 1851/DEC 6, 1859" followed by "1873" and the right side "MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS CO/CHICOPEE FALLS/1882". The serial number is marked on the rear on the lower tang behind the pistol grip. Blue barrel gauges at 28 caliber CF and there is a step in the chamber, casehardened remaining parts and mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and extra fancy checkered walnut pistol grip stock, with a tear drop flat and nickel plated Swiss style buttplate.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 60% original thin blue finish with a smooth plum patina on the balance. The receiver retains 30% original dark case colors, mainly on the left side, with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The hammer has a smooth dark patina and the lever has a smooth mottled gray patina. The buttplate retains 97% original nickel finish, which has "frosted" with wear limited to the ends of the prongs. The wood is also very fine, with some overall scattered minor dents, and crisp checkering. The receiver markings are beginning to fade, but all are readable. Mechanically excellent.
