The right side of the receiver is marked: " MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS / 1882." The opposite side is marked: "EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / MAY 27, 1851 / DEC. 6, 1859" followed by "1873". The lower tang is marked with the serial number. The rifle has a heavy, part octagon barrel with forearm and a dove tailed folding globe blade front sight. The rear sight has been removed, a second dovetail slot on the top flat has a filler block and there is a tang mounted mid range peep sight with retaining stud. Mounted with a smooth forearm and pistol grip stock with an iron carbine style buttplate.

Condition: Very good as period customized. The barrel has a smooth mottled brown patina. The receiver retains 20% original dull case colors, mixed with smooth mottled gray patina. The hammer and lever have a smooth dark patina. The buttplate has a smooth grayish brown patina. A 4" x 1 1/2" (at the buttplate) piece of the stock toe has been replaced, otherwise the wood is good with a few overall scattered minor dings in the wood. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
