The right side of the receiver is marked: " MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS / 1882." The opposite side is marked: "EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / MAY 27, 1851 / DEC. 6, 1859" followed by "1873". The lower tang is marked with the serial number. The rifle has a heavy, part octagon barrel without forearm. The barrel is equipped with a 28 3/4" tubular scope mounted on the front and rear sight dove tails. There is a tang mounted mid range peep sight with stop stud. Mounted with a smooth straight grip stock with an iron carbine style buttplate.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 85% plus original thinning blue finish with areas faded to a smooth plum patina. The receiver retains 70% original case colors with the balance faded to a smooth gray patina. The hammer has a smooth dark patina and the lever has a smooth gray and brown patina. The buttplate has a dark patina with some light oxidation. The reoiled stock is fine with some scattered minor dents and scratches. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent. The scope is fine with a mix of original blue finish and smooth plum patina, with clear optics.
