The right side of the receiver is marked: "MANUFACTURED BY / MASS. ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS / 1882". The opposite side is marked: "EDWARD MAYNARD / PATENTEE / MAY 27, 1851 / DEC. 6, 1859" followed by "1873". The lower tang is marked with the serial number. Part octagon barrel with a forearm, with a folding combination beach front sight, the rear sight has been removed and a filler block installed and there is a mid range tang mounted peep sight. The barrel is blue with a casehardened receiver and mounted with a checkered walnut pistol grip stock with a nickel plated Swiss buttplate. Complete with a 28 inch part octagon 20 gauge barrel with lever numbered to the gun.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 50% thin original blue finish mixed with smooth plum patina. The frame retains 40% original case colors with a smooth grayish brown patina on the balance. The buttplate retains 98% original frosted nickel finish with wear limited to the end of the prongs. The stock has been lightly sanded and refinished, showing a few minor dings and crisp freshened checkering. Some markings have faded and are unreadable, otherwise the majority is readable. The action is fine. The shotgun barrel is very fine retaining 70% original finish with areas faded to a smooth plum patina.
