Although so mentioned in later Maynard catalogs as the "Model 1865", these rifles were produced in 1863 to 1865 simultaneous with the wartime carbines. Blade front sight and fixed rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY 27, 1851/DEC 6, 1859" and the right side is marked with the three line Massachusetts Arms address. The upper tang is fitted with a mid range peep sight and stop stud. Blue barrel and casehardened remaining parts, and mounted with a smooth varnished walnut stock, and a carbine buttplate.

Condition: Very good plus. The barrel retains 20% thin original blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. There is a smooth mottled brown patina on the balance, with some minor flash pitting on the hammer. The stock is fine, with much of the original varnish, showing scattered minor pressure dents. The markings are clear. The action is very good.
