Although so mentioned in later Maynard catalogs as the "Model 1865", these rifles were produced in 1863 to 1865 simultaneous with the wartime carbines. Hooded front sight and fixed rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY 27, 1851/DEC 59" and the right side is marked with the three line Massachusetts Arms address. The upper tang is fitted with a mid range peep sight and stop stud. Blue barrel and casehardened remaining parts, and mounted with a smooth varnished walnut stock with a carbine buttplate.

Condition: Very good. The barrel retains 20% original blue finish mixed with smooth brown patina. The hammer has a dark brown patina with some flash pitting. The receiver, lever and buttplate have a smooth mottled grayish brown patina. The stock is good with a few minor shallow gouges and scattered minor dings. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent.
