Mauser model 1934, .32 caliber semiautomatic pocket pistol, German Nazi-Navy marked on right side of frame, showing swastika with “M”, #02844 on instrap. Original high polish commercial grade finish, checkered woodgrips, serial #544777. This Mauser was the personal gun of Captain Debler, who commanded German submarine U-234. At the end of the war, U-234 was intercepted, captured and escorted to Portsmouth, NH. Ensign R. W.Hageboom, USN, was an officer aboard the victorious American ship DE-771. The Mauser pistol #5477 was raffled and won by Hageboom. A classified secret until after the Cold War, U-234 was a large supply submarine which was smuggling approx. 500kg of Uranium Oxide to Japan, along with personnel. Hageboom was among the American crew put aboard U-234 and secretly transported the ship to Portsmouth, NH. This event was one of the mostinteresting and closely guarded secrets of the Cold War era and has been the subject of a feature television program. Little John’s Antique Arms, Inc, obtained this pistol in July of 2007 from Mr. Hageboom, and the lot
