This is a nice example of a scarce First Sub-Variation Mauser S/42 "K" Luger pistol. These pistols were the first new production Lugers that were manufactured after Hitler came to power in 1933. They used letter codes during 1934 and 1935 to hide initial rearmament of the German military. There were four distinct sub-variations of "K" Lugers with only about 1,700 produced in this first block. They are distinguished by having the early script "S" markings on all the parts. The top of the chamber has the distinctive "K" markings indicating that it was made in 1934 and the top of the toggle has the script "S/42" proofs indicating manufacture at the Mauser factory. The right side of the barrel extension has the 1st Variation double "O/37" proofs next to the early drooped wing Mauser Eagle proof. The left rear of the barrel has a single "O37" proof and the droop wing eagle on the right side. The bottom of the barrel is marked with the matching serial number and the bore diameter "8,82. The majority of the small part including the side plate, extractor, safety ejector, magazine release button and front of the trigger guard also has the correct small script "S" markings. The complete matching serial number is marked on the left side of the barrel extension, front of the frame and underside of the barrel, with the last two numbers "50" marked on most of the small components. The magazine is blue with an aluminum base marked "2/8499" and the lower left side is marked "fxo/stick wig eagle/37" and "P.08". The pistol is fitted with checkered walnut grips.
