This is a fine example of a late WWII K98 Mauser single claw sniper rifle fitted with an Oigee scope. These rifles used a mounting system similar in appearance to the WWI Austro-Hungarian Model 95 sniper variation made at the Steyr Armory. The front base is of two piece machining with the base soldered to the front receiver ring while the rear base is a machined two piece soldered and screwed to the rear of the receiver. This system allows the scope to sight directly over the bore, while the offset mounts allow the use of the conventional sights. With the Steyr-Daimler-Puch 98K serving as the base weapon, approximately 10,000 claw-mount sniper rifles were produced in 1943 and 1944 for German sharpshooting use. The scope on this rifle has the elevation adjustment on top without graduation markings, standard post reticule, a knob top marked "OIGEE/MADE IN/GERMANY/BERLIN" and the right side of the base is marked "LUXOR hell 4x". The scope bases and mounts are numbered "7125/C" which matches all of the visible numbered parts, except for the floor plate mounting screw which is marked "96". This rifle has no marks on the front receiver ring and the left receiver wall is marked "Mod. 98" and the left rear of the barrel marked with a Nazi firing proof. Two "eagle/WaA77" are present on the right rear of the barrel under the rear tangent sight. Early all milled parts and standard late war laminated stock and handguard with a checkered cupped buttplate and an "eagle/WaA523" proof stamped near the toe. Comes with a slotted cleaning rod.
