This is an example of a large ring shallow panel variant Model 1896 Broomhandle Mauser pistol with the desirable Von-Lengerke Import frame markings. The chamber area is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF/A/N", with the left side marked with a "Crown/U" commercial proof, right side marked with the Mauser antler firing proof. The barrel underside has three small script/letter proofs and the left side milled panel is marked "VON LENGERKE/& DETMOLD/NEW-YORK". Correct large ring hammer, non-reinforced barrel/chamber area, long extractor, late style one-lug firing pin, with the shallow milled frame panels. Walnut grips with 22 grooves on each side, late style tangent rear sight graduated from 50-1000 and correctly numbered to the pistol, fixed front sight and original lanyard ring on the bottom grip frame.

Condition: Very good as partially refinished with 60% of the faded original blue finish remaining with even wear overall especially on the edge and high spots, with the grip straps showing slightly more blue loss mixed with some fine dark brown patina. The undersized grips are good with recut grooves on both sides. The pistol has matching numbers on the various parts to include the grips.
