Matched Gold Embellished Set of European Rapier and Parrying Dagger

Both weapons in this lot are from the 19th century and are decorated with golden vinework, and outfitted with a straight dual quillion cross guard, twisted metal wire grip and a round pommel. 1) Spanish swept-hilt rapier, 45 1/2 inches in overall length with a 39 1/2 inch blade. The blade has a protected square profile ricasso with a "crown/3" style stamp on each side, a staged set of fullers (5, 4, and 3) 2/3rds of the length of the blade, ending in a diamond profile on the last third. The center fuller is marked "+SEB+AST+IAN HER+NAN+DEZ+" on each side on the lower third. Research attributes the "crown/3" to Toledo bladesmith Sebastian Hernandez, active circa 1637. With a gold embellished multi-branch handguard and pommel. 2) Parrying dagger, 17 1/4 inches overall, with an 11 3/4 inch blade, gold embellished on the oval profile ricasso and a series of 3 staggered flat panels on the central third of the otherwise diamond profile blade. A guard ring with matching decoration is present on the guard. Two very well made 19th century manufactured edged weapons.
