Manufacturer: Colt Model: Single Action Army
This 19th Century Colt Single Action Army revolver features an exquisite, well executed scroll and punch dot relief engraved pattern covering most of the metal surfaces and gold inlays that was applied to the revolver by an unknown artisan approximately 100 years later. The master scroll engraving covers the barrel and ejector housing, including the front sight. The barrel has a pair of gold inlaid bands at the muzzle and breech with gold inlaid crossed arrows ahead of the two line Hartford address. The left side of the barrel has "45 COLT" in gold. The cylinder also has a pair of gold inlaid bands at the rear with the scrollwork on each chamber. The full coverage scroll engraving is also featured the frame, back strap, hammer sides and butt with areas of the engraved pattern on the trigger guard and front grip strap. The left side of the frame is stamped with the two line, three patent dates marking followed by a circled Rampant Colt in gold. There are gold inlays on a punch dot background featured on the recoil shield (Native American), loading gate (eagle head) and top of the back strap (buffalo). The rear of the frame at the base of the hammer has wide shallow serrations. All blue finish with smooth pearl grips. Matching numbers on the frame and grip straps. The included factory letter confirms the caliber and barrel length with the type of stocks not listed and finished blue when it was shipped on January 30, 1891 as part of a six gun shipment to Schoverling, Daly and Gales, New York, New York.
