Massive spear point Bowie knife made by Henry Booth and Co. Norfolk Works, Sheffield measuring 18” overall with 12” blade. This fine knife shows the ultra-desirable original half horse, half alligator pommel, pearl grip scales and etched blade with legend, “For Self-Defense”. Also retains the original to the period fancy engraved German silver scabbard. The blade shows fine quality and attention to detail with precision grinding and reinforced back edge with file work. The Bowie is in very good untouched condition with no cleaning or polishing and a nice even patina. The blade shows its full original by dimensions with just some minor scattered pitting, light erosion and minor wear. The scabbard shows a well-done repair to the tip and a couple minor dents. A very impressive and large knife of fine quality that was very expensive when made and most likely accompanied its original owner to the gold rush as his self-defense. Absolutely authentic to the 19th century. Est.: $25,000-$50,000.
