Massive modern copy of the famous Sharps Model 1874 Sporting rifle by Shiloh Sharps of Big Timber, Montana specifically made for well-known actor Tom Selleck in preparation for his starring role in the classic movie“Quigley Down Under”. Accompanying the gun is a letter dated November 5, 1990 from gun specialist Daniel Phariss stating in part the following: “This Shiloh #3 Sporting rifle #8159 with a #3 heavy weight barrel was usedby Tom Selleck in preparation for the movie “Quigley Downunder (sp)” as the enclosed photos and newspaper documentation indicate. Mr. Selleck wanted to shoot a Sharps with live ammunition with shooters who couldinstruct him in the proper way to handle the rifle and in the particulars needed to make his performance in the movie authentic.” The photos mentioned include Mr. Selleck shooting this rifle and the newspaper referenced isThe Big Timber Pioneer, dated Week of Aug. 2-8, 1989, which has the same picture on the front page and a long article about Mr. Selleck’s visit and his upcoming movie that was set in the Australian Outback.
