Massive French percussion double rifle that is finely engraved in game scenes and signed Zaoue A Marseille. The rifle measures 46” overall with 29 ½” side-by-side barrels of 85+ caliber full rifled. The barrel is mounted with a folding rearsight and stocked in European Walnut with a fancy grain. The barrels show 80% plus tobacco color brown European finish with some areas of light to moderate pitting and erosion. The mounts are French gray or bright and show a small amount ofcleaning with very sharp and well detailed engraving. The locks are engraved with leopards and there is a lion on the tang. Also a leopard engraved on the trigger guard and a running boar on the butt plate. The condition of the mounts are very good plus. The stocks show a light old refreshing. An original ramrod to seat massive pointed bullets is included. The actions are good and the original nipples show bright blue. The bores are very good plus. A very uncommon and high quality big-game rifle dated about the 1860s-70s in the early colonial era when many Frenchmen were exploring the African Congo and the Middle East. Est.: $5000-$10,000
