This is a Marusan tin litho battery operated toy Mercedes racer from the 1950's. In 1955 a Mercedes SLR, the model this toy was based on, won the Mille Miglia. The car is silver with red trim and features a number "7" on the hood and rear quarter panels. The bottom of the car is marked with the Marusan's logo, 'SAN' in the middle of a circle (in Japanese, "maru" means circle), with "Marusan Toys / Japan" around the outside of the circle. Also printed is "Kosuge", which is the name of the city in which the toy was produced. The car has some corrosion in the battery compartment, as pictured. Otherwise it shows some scratches and wear including some tan colored smudges that don't seem to come off. It was not tested for working condition. The car measures 10 1/4" x 4" x 21/2".
