Martini Henry Muscat 577-450 Cal Zulu War Carbine - 1879 Model

The .577/450 Martini Henry cavalry and artillery carbine was a compact, single-shot, falling-block
firearm similar to those used by British forces during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.

These firearms were issued to cavalry and artillery units because the longer infantry rifle was to
unwieldy on horseback or around cannons. This Historic example appears to be working as it should
but we did not test fire it.

Has various proof marks as shown - one of them Belguim Crown over ELG. The othe ron charge
handle is a British War Department mark.
Martinis built or engraved for the Muscat market are almost always Belgian, although surplus British
Martinis were imported as well, and they are usually well-made. In fact, Martinis seem to be one of
the firearms which fared quite well in the Belgian trade - as compared with such firearms as their
notorious Belgian bridge Navy Colt copies, or copies of the break-open .44 Smith and Wessons.

Overall condition is a 4/10 with many dents and scratches - Rear stock does have a few cracks showing.
Bluing is gone and there is a blotchy antique finish patina all over the matal surfaces.
The action on both sides and along the top of the barrel has been decoratively engraved.
Three peice stocks in hardwood are all tight and show antique patina.
Barrel is 20 inches long with original Iron Sights . Bore is dark.

All appears original. Comes complete with Leather Sling

Mixed history on these units as proof marks show. Hard to decifer exactly where this particular unit
spent its long life.
