Martially-marked Winchester Hotchkiss Second Model bolt action carbine, .45 cal., 24” barrel, saddle ring, blue finish, wood stock with two piece cleaning rod in hidden compartment in forestock under forend cap, #12767. This gun is in overall good condition showing a brown patina on metal surfaces with VP over eagle head proof on left side of barrel at breech; also “H.N.” inspector’s mark at same location and adjacent to serial number on top of receiver and on top of bolt; there is also an “R” stamped on the top of the barrel between the adjustable rear sight and the receiver collar; the bore is fair to good, the action crisp and the markings good; the wood is overall good although there are old cracks on both sides of the receiver at the upper tang, some scattered mars and scratches from carry and storage and an old I and S carved into the left side of the butt stock near the butt plate; there are no visible inspector cartouches on the wood; an interesting piece that should be further researched as according to Flayderman’s Guide, only 400 Second Model Army carbines were produced. From an old estate. Est.: $600-$1,200+.
