This is an example of a martially inspected Remington New Model Army Transitional Revolver. Transitional New Model Army Revolvers have been observed within the 10,000 to 22,000 serial number range. The revolver has the two line patent date/address barrel marking without "NEW MODEL": "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A.". The front sight is the early production cone sight of the 1861 model. Single letter inspection marks (J, S, G) are stamped on most of the components. The left grip panel has a clear and crisp cartouche. The barrel and cylinder are numbered to the gun. The New Model Army Revolver was one of the major handguns of the Civil War and was also the last of Remington's 44 caliber percussion revolvers.
BBL: 8 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 19891
Condition: Very fine as Arsenal refurbished. The revolver retains 95% blue finish showing a few small patches of brown, a bright cylinder drag line, and some minor thinning on the grip straps. There is a small area of minor pitting near the muzzle (right side) which some light scratches. The grips are also very fine with a few very scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
