Marlin model 1881 lever-action rifle, 30” heavy bull barrel, .40 caliber, blue finish, standard walnut stocks with steel shotgun type buttplate, serial #18503. The rifle shows 50-70% original blue drifting to brown on the barrel with some erosion and pinprick pitting and darkening just stating. The barrel address is good, the edges are good. The magazine tube has drifted to grayish brown with about 10% of the blue and shows some light to moderate erosion and pitting. The frame is lightly cleaned to grey long ago and is now coloring back as is the forend cap, and the exposed metal shows some minor erosion and pinprick pitting. A couple of screws have been marred on the frame, the stocks are good with some light cleaning with steel wool or light sanding and are slightly down against the metal. The action is tight, the bore is fair to good and may clean. Shows some darkness. The barrel measures 13/16” across the muzzle. These heavy barrels are hard to find and seldom seen.
