Marlin model 1881, .45-70 caliber special order rifle, 32” extra heavy octagon barrel, 3/4 magazine, standard wood stocks with metal buttplate. Serial #25849. The rifle remains in very good plus original condition with 70-80% original blue drifting to brown thinning at the edges with some light areas of pinprick pitting and some erosion just starting. The barrel address is good, the frame shows a couple of small areas of pitting on the edge. The stocks show a slight burl wood grain, especially in the forend and some small scratches, mars, dings, from handling and use, but at least very good. The action is good, the bore is very good plus. The barrel measures nearly 7/8” across the flats. Very few extra long and heavy Marlins are encountered in the 81 series, and only a few are encountered. Est: $8,000 - $14,000
