Marlin 1881 .32-40 SN: 19056
Top-ejecting lever action repeating rifle chambered in .32- 40 caliber, circa 1888. Marlin's first lever action rifle. Out of the 20,000 produced only 1,785 were chambered in .32-40 and only 2,788 were built with 24" barrels, making this a scarce configuration. Features a blued finish, 20" octagonal barrel marked "Marlin Fire-Arms Co. New-Haven, CT. U.S.A.", full magazine tube, Lyman blade front sight, adjustable rear sight, steel receiver, checkered hammer spur, smooth trigger, metal forend cap, straight grain plain walnut forend, and straight grip shoulder stock with metal crescent buttplate. Barrel retains 70% original bluing with scattered dark oxidation. Receiver shows 25% bright blue finish and is otherwise in the white with a left side showing a large spot of oxidation. Wood stocks are very fine with shoulder stock appearing to have been lightly restored. Markings are good, action is smooth and bore is very good. Condition is good to very good as antique. ***Antique Firearm***
