This New Model 3 revolver falls into the late 23,000 Australian serial number range, however consignor notes state it is a Japanese contract revolver. Interesting features include the 6 1/2 inch barrel, the serial number range, combined with what appears to be a factory installed lanyard swivel. The serial number is stamped on horizontally rather that vertically, which further reinforces the idea of a factory installed swivel. The top of the barrel rib is marked with the two line address/patent dates and the matching serial number is marked on the butt, rear face of the cylinder, barrel latch and barrel. Pinned blade front and notch rear sights, nickel finish with casehardened hammer and trigger guard, and fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with "S&W" logo at the top and patent date on the lower left side, and a lanyard ring on the butt. Complete with an un-numbered walnut shoulder stock with nickel hardware and checkered hard rubber buttplate. One should not rule out the possibility that this is an Australian as guns and stocks used in Western Australia often lack the broad arrow proofs.
