This is a beautiful example of a exhibition grade French pinfire revolver which features a very unique two tone gold finish and silver relief chiseled floral engraving on the barrel muzzle, breech and lug, cylinder, frame, trigger guard and grip straps. The only marking is on the left rear barrel flat, a "crown/EL" over "ACIER FONDU" (translated cast steel). There is an ejector rod mounted on the right side of the frame, Lanyard ring on the butt, high post front and hammer notch rear sights. Fitted with smooth ivory grips. The revolver is complete in a wooden case with inscribed brass shield on the lid, brass corner protectors and double inlaid brass bands on the lid. The lining is blue satin with a gold rope accent in the lid and French cut blue velvet in the case. The interior has two covered compartments with ivory pulls. In the case is a short ivory handled soft brush, possibly for the cylinder chambers, an ivory handled screwdriver, ivory handled cleaning rod and ivory oiler.
BBL: 5 inch part octagon

Gauge: 11 PF
Finish: gold/silver
Grips: ivory
Serial Number: 178553
Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 98% original gold finish with some scattered pin prick type blistering, some minor flaking on the edges and some normal usage wear on the trigger sides with a smooth brown patina on the trigger face. 98% of the original silver remains. Overall there is a small amount of minor oxidation. The grip is excellent with a few hairline age cracks radiating from the left side screw escutcheon and showing an attractive grain. The action needs minor work, the hammer does not function in either single or double action, the cylinder does rotate when the trigger is pulled. (This probably benifited the revolver due to not functioning, which in turn saved the finish!) The engraving remains sharp. The case is excellent overall with a few minor dings and scratches on the exterior. There are a few holes and tears in the lid lining and the velvet lining shows some moderate contact wear from the revolver and some minor soiling. All of the accessories are extremely fine.
