Manufactured from 1857 to 1860. This is one of the final examples of the 6th and final variation of the so called 1st, 1st revolver. The top of the barrel rib marked "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS." and the cylinder is marked with the 1855, '59 and '60 patent dates. The left side of the frame is period inscribed "R.C.D. to G.H.T.". The revolver has a brass blade front and notch rear sights, the frame is silver plated while the remaining parts were blue and it is fitted with smooth two piece varnished rosewood grips. Complete with an original Smith & Wesson Gutta Percha case with decorative carved lid with image of a Number One revolver and "MANUFACTURED ONLY BY/SMITH & WESSON,/SPRINGFIELD MASSACHUSETTS". The inside of the lid has decorative violet colored velvet and there is brown velvet on the bottom and a 56 round bullet block.

Condition: Very fine to excellent. The revolver retains 80% original blue finish thinning along exposed points on the high edges. The frame retains 99% original silver plating which has pleasantly darkened with age. The grips are excellent retaining 99% original varnish, with some very minor wear on the lower edges as well as a few tiny dings. The markings and inscription are clear. The action is excellent. The case is excellent with some moderate contact wear.
