Introduced in 1949. The F, or Premier grade was the highest offered by Remington, and each one was effectively a hand made firearm, with the engraving and inlay on their own representing upwards of 80 man-hours of custom work by a master gunsmith. Notes from James Tipton, noted Remington collector, state that the engraving on this example was performed by Carl Ennis. White front and nickel mid beads on the vent rib, with the two line patent and address markings on the right side of the barrel, and the 3 inch chamber markings on the reverse. A 2 1/4" wedge of scroll engraving with textured background is present on each side of the breech, running to the markings, and then transitioning into banners around them. The model and serial number markings are hand engraved on the underside of the receiver, which shows over 95% coverage of fine scrollwork, with textured backgrounds and zig-zag and punch dot border designs, floral patterns on the trigger guard retention pins, and a leaf design on the rear of the operating handle. A dog's head is present on the underside of the trigger guard. Multiple game scenes are present on the receiver, with the right side featuring a golden duck in flight over a lake scene, two golden hunting dogs, one on point, in a woodland scene, and a gold pheasant in flight over a rolling hill, and the left side showing a gold pheasant in flight over plains, two gold dogs among rolling hills, and a golden game bird retreating into woods. Concealed in the scrollwork near the dogs on each side is a small, tasteful ".E.", a known mark used by Carl Ennis to identify his work. Fitted with a high grade walnut stock, featuring sharp checkering on the forearm and pistol grip, integrating curved and sharply angled border lines, a Remington grip cap with Fleur-de-Lis accents, an untouched gold inscription panel on the underside, 14 1/4" pull and a solid Pachmayr Old English recoil pad.

The wood is of the highest quality with well defined grain and absolutely beautiful highlights throughout. A grand firearm from the James Tipton Collection, showcasing the level of work available from the Remington Factory Custom Shop.
